Joshua Topolsky & friends' just launched a very promising new tech news site. It's worth noting that they are creating a true next gen editorial news site. I love the way they've laid out the homepage plus the way they've colored some of the photos. Learn more about this new venture.

Nokia rarely does anything that catches my eye. But with the launch of the MeeGo/Qt powered N9 I have realized that the Finnish company is actually able to "get" some of what's wrong with their usual lineup of phones. In fact, what I found most impressive with the launch was the very well done UX Guidelines site. This looks to be a great tool for UX designers looking to build apps for the N9. Well done, Nokia. Lovely redesign by Dan Mall. The homepage is both clever and simple. Not to mention the superb portfolio navigation and the individually art directed articles. One of the most fascinating portfolio designs in a while. It's a site that subtly points out why Dan is considered one of the best.

This one does need any explanation really. The only question is why I didn't post it before. The site is filled with beautiful little details like illustrations, rollover effects and so on. Needless to say, the site really makes me want to attend the festival.

Needless to say, ultra hot Paravel has done it again. Lake Wapogasset is actually a family of four camps with the same spiritual mission. I think @trentwalton, @davatron5000 and @raygunray have done a very impressive job of joining these camps together without taking away their individuality. What's more, since I'm an atheist, I've set the bar extra high for religious websites to be posted here. No, not really. That was supposed to be a joke. Lake Wapogasset is a very beautiful site. Paravel has also written a post about the process.

Scott Robbin, a developer, and Naz Hamid, a designer made Interhoods. They've worked together for a while, and this site is a way for others to do the same — collaborate, find each other and make magic happen. Seriously beautiful execution of a wonderful idea. I'm eager to see where they're taking this next. Via Ryan Sims.

The use of whitespace and colors on Five Simple Steps' website is drop dead gorgeous. The grid in the design is wonderfully implemented and it's really impossible to resist the sudden urge to buy a book or two.

With a redesigned website and an identity refresh, The Mid-Century Modernist is intent on showcasing the most beautiful retro objects of desire in the world. I really, really like the way it feels out of this world when it comes to layout, colors and navigation. Close to perfection and one of a kind. Make sure to check out the gallery. Via ISO50.

Jon Hicks just redesigned his journal/blog as a fluid site. Motivated by Ethan Marcotte’s excellent article for A List Apart Responsive Web Design, Jon has definitely done an impressive job. Make sure to resize your browser to see how it folds, bends and adapts.

This is not the first time I'm extremely impressed with the design of Joyent's website. Once again they manage to pull off a great website redesign. And make no mistake, this is no realignment. This is a huge leap. Truly beautiful with great information architecture and readability.
