"Because Web Designers Are The New Rockstars." DesignCharts compiles a weekly top 40 chart tracking the most popular website designs based on various factors. By aggregating clicks from select webdesign galleries and community sites, DesignCharts aim to be a new hub for who's hot and who's not in the world of design on the web. As the target audience is mainly designers the interface is of course all done in Flash.
The network list used to compile the charts is a bit of a joke. I have never heard of any of them. Where are the likes of thefwa.com? Credibility is very small if they don't use well known award sites to compile their list.
Cool idea but the whole rockstar theme is a bit over the top.
the network list is just a draft - not a joke - have your say ozzy!
you never heard of dope awards? shame on you :) the idea is great - i appreciate the whole meta design link collection-ing. the rockstar theme kinda rocks because it is (or will become) a billboard chart of webdesign - so it is con-text. just like the types AND font sizes - just like some music mag.
color? hm don't know... looks like yellostrom.de [german electricity supplier] :)
Hi guys,
Okay, okay, I didn't want to repond to any negativity and spoil Johan's pretty site! Especially when you look and see that some people post nothing but negativity *wink* *wink*.
It is funny though, I wonder what people would say about "credibility" if we were tracking websites over at worldbestwebsites.com
:) hehe
If you haven't heard of The Network Sites we have right now, (and yes we are adding more*), that's probably because, like myself, you have your favorite award-sites that love and visit all the time.
That's fine, but it's a big world out there, with many many talented folks in many many different countries, speaking many many different languages -- and they all have their own sites that they visit, use and love -- and we want to represent as many folks as we can.
Designaside, is one such example. If you haven't heard of them before, that's not suprising, it's BRAZILIAN! :) And, I think their website is beautiful, informative and current. And of course, they promote quality design, which again, is what we are all simply trying to do here...
As for discounting Dope and WDA, that's sad and I think you're totally wrong -- they have page after page of TOP sites...and the sites they feature are coveted by many.
Also, if you're actually wondering about how The Charts are compiled. Beleive me, it's a little bit more complex than you may or may not think. I actually think the sites on The Chart "size up" pretty well. So "stay tuned" there's more coming, and let's not forget that we're trying to have some fun!
And finally, no -- I have no direct control over who gets on The Charts. If you want to get on The Chart, you need to get awarded from the sites in The Network. And if you get featured from a website that's not in the network, then you need to talk to them, not me *hint* *hint* :)
Btw, I just heard that Google maybe buying YouTube for $1.6bn, now if those guys aren't the New Rockstars, then I don't know what is! :)
...and that yellostrom.de website REALLY IS YELLOW! hehe
Peace,
Ozzy.
* when you take into account that we are actually tracking clicks and the issues that brings (server/bandwith etc.), we have to grow steadily instead of just "loading up" and crashing the system. That would suck!
...
Btw, if any of you are into Netvibes, you can grab our new module here: DesignCharts Netvibes Module
And thanks for listening...
Correction: designaside.com is Italian not Brazilian. I got confused with other Brazilian site that's coming soon...
I love Design Charts, it's such a good idea.. and the design rocks, the flash is hot, the big bold type (just like traditional music charts!) is awesome and the yellow is very cool. I just really love it and I'm glad that it has nothing to do with the FWA.
Just a WOW! to describe their work... Simpliness, eaysiness of use, they rule!

Awesome idea and pretty good execution. My gripes: too much yellow (it's too strong) and it's difficult to just quickly scan the list. This could very easily be accomplished without any scrolling at all. Yeah, it's geared towards web geeks and we scroll with the best of 'em but still. Little too bold for my tastes.
