Osaka, Japan based 3D-animator and designer of sorts Toshiyuki Kuwabara's portfolio is a wonderful site to add to the Styleboost directory. The layout and colors are outstanding. This goes for the 3D characters throughout the site. As much as I like this site, I would still rather see it done as a pure html/css site instead of all Flash.
I tend to agree that HTML/CSS would have been better for such a static site. If you really wanted, alot of those animations could have been accomplished with moo.fx or something similar.
The only advantage with using Flash that I can see here is that it lumps all the nasty load time at the start. Users tend to tolerate that a little more than a site that feels slow everywhere you go. Had he tried to accomplish the exact same graphics with just JPGs or PNGs the page loading times would be pretty rough.
Otherwise it's a beautiful site; just give us a little something more Toshiyuki!
I think there is no reason not to use flash here. It throws all the load time to the start (this site is fast once its loaded), and all of the animations (although simple) are clean and smooth.
I honestly don't understand why people think that the only time flash should be used is with animation-heavy sites. Personally, i find flash easier to work with, sometimes even with simple sites. Unless the site relies heavily on PHP/Mysql, I always see flash as a viable alternative.
This site is simply lovely. And please be fair before you start the kinda lame technology discussion. If you really know flash and love it - then use it. If you tried it and did not fall in love with it - respect others who do. I would say flash seems to be appropriate for the video presentations. The animations are mediocre but functionable. Don't forget he is not a pro webdesigner and did not say so. All in all - great works!
And yes, as Jonathan said, flash is always a full alternative to XHTML. You can go over-the-top and / or make sober and elegant beauties as well with both of them. Just try to convince a flexible and database-based giantic website like FWA not to use flash for it :)

No need for all flash. If you're going to use all flash - use it. Take advantage of it. There is nothing extraordinary here. I would have liked to see more nuances. Possibly an animated character, banner, etc.
