Taking on the role of Nike recently, Microsoft has started delivering some of the most exciting Flash sites on the web. They're all very different and very creative and makes great use of the capabilites of Flash. If you're going to use Flash, you should go all the way like they're doing with this site. I also think they're taking the cheesy color scheme of Vista in a good direction with Surface.

Wouldn’t mind having one of those, BUT i think they still got a way to go before everything you see in the videos will work like it does there.

Reminds me a lot to the “Desktop 2.0” - which i thought was a nice idea but not at all better than the old desktop we are used to work with. I would like to see more fine works on that screens, looks very crude - not to say magna-doodle-ish - from what the examples show. Maybe they will get Wacom into it, but for sure i agree there is a long way to go. And this can be the Minority Report future if you make it a big screen not a table.
If you consider the new Microsoft online world - the “nike world” :) - i would expect a little bit more. For example: One big full-screen demo of it - without the touch feature but with random real world items (mobile phone, camera….) to put on the interface and to interact with what is below and above the surface.

I want one!!! But as been said, it’s going to take a while before it gets that good as shown on the videos. Sites colors actually look nice which is surprising to me because i hate purple. Nice Flash video sizing with the hands too.

The object on table recognition, along with the wireless upload/download indications are interesting. But the applications shown on these demo reels seem ridiculously impractical, not to mention unwieldy. Who needs to rotate and throw around snapshots like that on a coffee table? Other “multi-touch” interfaces I have seen are much more impressive in terms of display mechanism. And there are a few features on Surface which look highly reminiscent of things Sony’s CSL lab did a ways back with their Datatiles interface.
Ok, I admit that I loathe Microsoft and that this is not an unbiased assessment. Still, don’t people think that they should think of some more interesting applications for this other than photo sharing, ordering drinks, and gambling?

I don’t need this-
Wacom Cintique would be more than enough instead of this for me :D

The website is the nicest piece of multimedia on the web that I’ve seen for a long time. Great use of Flash 9 with the whole transparency and video capabilities.
I hope the big media companies start pumping this stuff out. I’d love to see more Discovery Channel stuff on-line in this format.
Great to see what you can do when the usual SEO, download and budget constraints do not apply.
