MTV finally truly understands the web. This is how to do it. This is how to become the main source of music videos online. They've created a snappy, to-the-point and easy-to-use database of a whole lot of music videos. The colors are great, too. The only thing I see missing, is adding every music video in the known universe to the database.

Very clean; reminds me of Styleboost actually. Love the simplicity and yes, more content would be nice. I'm not crazy about the homepage layout. If you scroll down, there's no sense that those three columns on the left are meant to be read as columns instead of rows and even initially at the top of the page, I was reading them as rows and wondering why Rick Astley was showing up multiple times.

yeah, restricting international (uk) users is really understanding the web.

the overall simplicity of this design is great, but i think they have took it too far. The typography is pretty much a mess eg. super tiny in the comments, massive in the search box.. oh dear.

I'm not sold on the design at all. No doubt it is an impressive system, but the look of the site is skeletal, scrappy and underwhelming.

I like the design very much. It's not that far away from purevolume, lastfm etc. although Gareth might be right about some typography issues. The most important thing is that MTV finally concentrates on its main business, i.e. music (!), music videos, to transport information and to actually help to sell music. Took them quite a while to figure out that a video portal might be the next chapter in their history and more than that in this industry. The next era of 'video killed the radio star' has begun.

Good usability but the design is plain but restrictions are a big failing point for the site. Why not host the site where there are fewer restrictions.

Looks like Hulu to me. http://www.hulu.com/ What do you guys think? I'm glad they put this site up. It was long overdue. I'm not crazy about the design at all. I expect more from MTV. Actually I take that back considering the programming. The type is too small and there is a lot of wasted space. A perfect example is the right column on the homepage. You can always zoom in but then the video gets stretched.

I think it's cool. I like it. Shame about the restrictions though, that pissed me off a bit.. it should be global!
