Kontain is a slick blogging platform that is unfortunately made with Flash. That is the wrong way to do it. In fact it really, really pisses me off to see a site made this way. I can't right click an image and copy it into Photoshop, I can't ctrl-click, I can't even make site open in Firefox right now (even though I used to be able to do this)... To make a long angry rant short, I can sum this up in the following: Slick and beautiful aesthetics that are ruined by using the wrong technology. UPDATE: Kontain is currently being developed in standards based XHTML/CSS with a planned release in February/March.

Once again Fi did it like they did it before (thinkswedish). They use flash where flash has never gone before. Ok, ultrashock is something like that, too. I admire these efforts, Kontain is a classical proof of concept.
But i can’t agree more with Johan. It would have been slick to the max without Flash.

Hey Styleboost,
John from Fi here. Thanks for the feedback. The good news is that Kontain is being developed in standards based XHTML/CSS as we speak. This release is about 2 months away and will address all of the issues you brought up in your post (along with a few pleasant surprises :)
Cheers,
John

While I agree that Kontain has problems as a result of utilizing Flash, I think your criticism is a little harsh. There are benefits to using Flash here. Consistent user experience, smooth transitions, tight integration of video. Perhaps it’s too early, but I feel is Flash getting better at supporting the kind of role it serves Kontain.

Hey Andrew and Thibaud,
John at Fi again. We’re planning on a seamless transition from Flash to XHTML. Modules like the media pod and the uploader are going to remain in Flash, so the experience there will remain intact.
As far as commenting, text editing (lots of amazing JS text editors out there), layout, etc; we feel strongly that the experience will be much better in XHTML. This is because of the usual benefits like better performance and the points that Johan mentioned in his initial post.
We’re always looking for feedback and suggestions on improving the platform. Please use our feedback form on Kontain.com. We read each and every one.
Best regards,
John

Thumbs up for Fi, yet again. Your work on Kontain is phenomenal, as always.

Anyone know why this was considered to be done in Flash? It looks extremely beautiful but I keep forgetting it’s done in flash. Amazing work by FI as usual. Hosted on Akamai as well… nice PRICE. I remember a time during peak traffic we accidentally hosted a video file on Akamai and man we lost a lot of money. My boss wasn’t too happy

Hey all. It’s been a while since my last post, but the new XHTML version of Kontain has finally launched. We do have a few browser specific bugs to patch up, and a few SEO tweaks, so any suggestions and bug reports would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy!
Best regards,
John
