Tim Jarvis is not just a nice guy, he's also one of those designers who keeps on impressing me with his work. This guy makes use of some quite unusual techniques that seem to go through most of his work. Great designer as well as a web developer.
OK site... Some of his work is good, but not all of it,...The Identity work is pretty nice
I always wonder how much work people in design companys have done on the work they take with them to their personal portfolio.
the site is pretty okey. i dont know shit about css coding etc. so i go after what i CAN see ;)
Andri, the site is designed entirely in DIV/CSS. I do, however, use tables to lay out the type, i just prefer the strength you get with therm across browsers. Additionally it uses a script to show/hide layers across iframes, meaning that the initial load of the page is absolutely tiny, as i think there are about four or five graphics on it.
If it makes you feel better, when i get a minute i'll put some /> tags in for you.
I would have to disagree with any negative comments about the work in this site. It contains very strong use of varied color, and nice use of form as seen in the identity peices. It's a pleasant change to see a designer so enabled that every project doesn't look exactly the same. The only problem I see is that the site does not work at all in Firefox... nice work otherwise.
Magnasoma, I'm a big fan of your design work. You could even see it in the design of my own web site :) However, your web development work is not on the same calibre in my opinion. Lets just look at your JavaScript usage. Lack of JS support should not stop your users from accessing the information on your page. PPKs article on this is a worthy read. Also if you want to learn more about CSS design taka a look at CSS Zen Garden or the CSS Vault for examples of how to create cutting-edge web sites. Tables for any kind of layout are the thing of the past.
Thanks mum. I'll bear it in mind ;).
I think this is great work, but why are there webdevelopers bitchin' about sites not using div's instead of tables these days? Is this the new trend? It's not the end of the world, and I would much rather see great graphic design with poor code that still over 90% of ppl worldwide can see, than pisspoor wannabe design that validates strict xhtml according to w3c...
Tommy, someone has to do all the bitching and moaning around here :) Coding, usability etc. is also a part of web design.
Hmm. Bit too much bitchin' going on about the technology behind the site here, and not enough about the work showcased within. Yes, having a fully-compliant website built in XHTML and styled with CSS is a nice thing but let's not forget this is a personal portfolio site, not a client site, and Magnasoma is free to do as he pleases with it!
Wow, someone gave this site there thought and feeling below its title, then here comes others to come in and disagree, like if everyone in the world ever liked one thing. Chill out, whats up with hating? [Haters]
I checked out the site. Id say Everything on there is clean and well shown. Simple as that. Put that on a biz card cd and show some work. Theres more to be done, skill to be gained, and all that good stuff.
Seems like the actual work should be showcased in an easy to navigate manner. It's a point that many designer' s still fail to grasp. Trying to get the newest, clean, dirty, or spark design technique involved, is not always the the best route. This is basic and works for it's purpose.

I like the minimal design, but nothing new there. The coding however is poor. Very 1995 somthing ... common you designers, have none of you guys heard of web standards? CSS and XHTML ring any bells? From a web development standpoint the site is mediocre at best.
