Despite being a Marmite lover, Simon is a skilled Creative Director at Erskine Design. His recently relaunched portfolio is a beauty that really shines through its use of great typography and wonderful illustrations. Via Factoryjoe's Flickr stream.

Blue, boxy, bold and beautiful. MCFC's website is a one-of-a-kind as far as sports club sites go. The richest club in the Premier League has indeed done more than just spend a boat load of money on player salaries. Feel free to prove me wrong, but as far as I know, this is the nicest site for a sports club.

Checkout is the powerful, easy to use point of sale system for the Mac. Use Checkout to take orders, make sales, print invoices and accept payments. Not only does the product look interesting, but the site sure makes the product stand out as both easy to use and look very professional. This is how it should be done.

I have two things to say about this site; 1) the photographs are outstanding and 2) the unusual site navigation works surprisingly well. Simon's photos are, in my opinion, very fascinating in themes and really make me think about the situations in which they were taken. The site navigation makes use of js fx that roll out the content and in turn makes you have to scroll vertically to see the photos in each series. This, for some reason, is a very pleasing way to enjoy his photos.

The portfolio site of contemporary artist & photographer Branislav Kropilak has gone through a realignment as well as having two new sections of work added. The photography work is great and unlike most pretty photography portfolios, the navigation stays in one place within an entire series (i.e. no navigation buttons jumping around all over the screen). I like the fact that it is all aligned to the top left. Kind of retro, really.

While Apple's hardware has been looking sweeter and sweeter with each year passing, the company's online presence has become more and more stale over the past few years. This week they finally decided to give the site a major overhaul. And what a redesign it is. Making use of slick javascript effects all over, including on a site search that surpasses anything I've ever seen anywhere, period, this site is a marvel of web design/development.

Its inventors claim it's a smarter, fairer and better way of lending and borrowing money. Whether this is true or not, I can't tell you. But I can tell you that its friendly and appealing design definitely strengthens my trust in the business and the idea behind it. It's not the only business of its kind, but it sure is the best designed. In fact, its design beats all finance-related websites I can think of as I'm writing this.
